We’re Nuts for Nuts

Nuts are so full of health benefits. Here’s why you should include more nuts in your diet.

Nuts often get a bad name for being high in calories and on the expensive side. However, nuts enhance most foods by adding an earthy, creamy and (unsurprisingly) nutty taste, and they offer many health benefits. Even top athletes vouch for eating nuts to help the body maintain strength.

Our GOÜTER clusters contain up to 40% nuts, which is almost four times higher than most competitor bars that use closer to just 10% nuts. Nuts are expensive compared to other snack bar ingredients, but our goal is to go back to basics and not cut corners when it comes to using wholesome, nutritious ingredients.

Here Are a Handful of Reasons Why We Go Nuts for Nuts:

Healthy Fats

Although nuts have a high-fat content resulting in all nuts being calorie-dense, it’s the sources of fats that nuts provide that are more important.

They are made with mostly ‘healthy’ fats known as monounsaturated fats. These kinds of fats have been known to improve heart health and reduce inflammation. Nuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids, which have tremendously positive impacts on the brain.

Almonds and Hazelnuts have been shown to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. They do this with a two-pronged attack by raising the ‘good’ cholesterol and reducing the ‘bad’ cholesterol. It is likely nuts help balance the cholesterol and triglycerides (a kind of fat found in the blood) through their high levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

High in Fibre

Your gut loves fibre, and so do we! Fibre aids digestion and ensures your gut can run at full capacity while keeping things ticking along as they should.

Source of Protein

Nuts, especially almonds and walnuts, are an excellent source of protein. Almonds, in particular, are 7g of protein per 35g portion (that’s 20%!) which is good news for vegetarians and vegans as nuts can be an excellent plant-based source of this essential macronutrient.

Source of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are molecules that your body needs protect your cells against free radicals. These free radicals may otherwise cause harm to your body if left to their own devices. This harm can cause cancers and heart disease, but it can also lead to inflammation and ageing. Antioxidants, such as vitamin E, can be found in almonds. One study even reports Walnuts being better at fighting these free radicals than fish (another win for the vegetarians!)

Anti-Inflammatory

Studies show that nuts can reduce long-term chronic inflammation. Although inflammation is produced by the body to assist in pathogen defence, too much inflammation over an extended period can result in health risks, including organ damage, and can even cause premature ageing.

Full of Essential Nutrients

Different varieties of nuts contain varying levels of essential nutrients. Here are the main vitamins and minerals found in the nuts we use at GOÜTER:

  • Calcium, Manganese, and Phosphorus – help maintain strong bones, essential for growing kids and older adults, where bone density may be depleting.
  • Magnesium – lowers blood pressure.
  • Vitamin A and Zinc – aid a healthy immune system and healing from wounds.
  • Vitamin B9/Folic Acid/Folate and Iron – improves energy levels and aids healthy cell growth (crucial for pregnancy). Iron is also necessary for healthy hormone production.
  • Vitamin B1/Thiamine – generates energy from nutrients and aids cell function.

Which Nuts Do We Use at GOÜTER?

  • Almonds

Fun Fact:

Almonds come from the same family as the rose. They are sometimes referred to as ‘the queen of the rose family. Almonds rely on wild honeybees to pollinate their crop.

  • Hazelnuts

Fun Fact:

Hazelnut plants were often given as gifts to newlywed couples by ancient Romans and the French. This is because the hazelnut tree symbolises fertility and happiness. The ancient Greeks also used ground hazelnuts to treat symptoms of the common cold.

  • Pecans

Fun Fact:

Pecan trees take ten years to mature and produce their nuts. Worth the wait, wouldn’t you say?

We want to be transparent with our customers and let you know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes when it comes to our chocolate clusters.

  • All our nuts come from within Europe (except pecan from the US).
  • We take responsibility for our carbon emissions, which is why we don’t buy nuts from further afield.
  • This reduces the amount of fuel needed to transport our nuts from the farms to our small production place in the UK.
  • This ensures our nuts are top quality and taste amazing, leaving you free to enjoy your snack while soaking up the nutritional benefits the nuts can offer.
